Want to know the words to the song?Lyrics
I've hardly been outside my room in days
'cause I don't feel that I deserve the sunshine's rays
The darkness helped until the whiskey wore away
And it was then I realize the conscience never fades
When you're young you have this image of your life
That you'll be scrupulous and one day even make a wife
And you make boundaries you'd never dream to cross
And if you happen to you wake completely lost
But I will fight for you, be sure that
I will fight until we're the special two once again
And we will only need each other, we'll bleed together
Our hands will not be taught to hold another's
When we're the special two
And we could only see each other, we'll bleed together
These arms will not be taught to need another
'Cause we were the special two
I remember someone old once said to me
"That lies will lock you up with truth the only key."
But I was comfortable and warm inside my shell
And couldn't see this place would soon become my hell
So is it better to tell and hurt or lie to save their face?
Well I guess the answer is don't do it in the first place
I know I'm not deserving of your trust from you right now
But if by chance you change your mind you know I will not let you down
'cause we were the special two, and we'll be again
And we will only need each other, we'll bleed together
Our hands will not be taught to hold another's
When we're the special two
And we can only see each other we'll breathe together
These arms will not be taught to need another...
'cause we're the special two
I step outside my mind's eye's for a minute
And I look over me like a doctor looking for disease
Or something that could ease the pain
But nothing cures the hurt you, you bring on by yourself
Just remembering, just remembering how we were...
When we would only need each other, we'd bleed together
Our hands would not be taught to hold another's
We were the special two
And we could only see each other, we'd bleed together
These arms would not be taught to need another
'Cause we're the special two
Hark! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the notes, and they are long!
Detailed Notes
So um...this is the notes part. Well, first off, I made this for Annika's birthday, and I'm sharing it with you guys with her permission. The song I used, "The Special Two" by Missy Higgins, was actually given to me by her, so I wanted to include it in her birthday present. And I thought about it, and there were really only two characters in the history of television who fit that song, and that was Ross and Rachel. So I basically decided that the storyline would be exactly what it was in canon, just...a simplified version. For one, no Emma. No Joey/Rachel. (Mostly because I like to pretend that Joey/Rachel never happened, kthnxbai.) Oh, and I magically skipped everything from TOW Ross Hugs Rachel until The Last One because...well, I was running out of time. 4 and a half minutes is simply not enough to cover ten seasons!
So, basically, I laid the story out thusly: First verse/chorus: The process of getting together, and getting happy. Second verse/chorus: the process of breaking up and coming back to each other, but ultimately falling victim to bad timing. Final verse/chorus/bridge/whatever thingy: Since the second verse ended with Rachel fighting for Ross as it faded to black and white, I transitioned back to color with a mirrored movement: another hug, but this time we see Ross's face not Rachel's. This time it is him that's decided to fight for her, and the rest of the vid deals with that.
Simple, basic storyline, yes?
Okay. So. Now we know what's going on with that. So...specifics.
Personally, the first moment in the video where I actually can say "that was good placement and editing" is the first kiss in the doorway of Central Perk. I just really love the movement and the song and the way they mesh right there.
At about 1:09, when Rachel pulls down the curtain...I love how its fall is right on that beat. I didn't intentionally do that, I just put that clip there and when I played it back I realized what I'd done and was happy about it, so...yeah.
I wish I could've had some big punchy part of the song for the kiss in TOW the Prom Video, but it fell where you see it now, and no matter what I did, it wouldn't go any place else, so I just had to time it on "breathe" and hope that it at least gave it SOMETHING. *sigh*
There are a couple of clips that I think ran too long, but...I couldn't stop them. Ross and Rachel wanted their long shots and they refused to let me cut away.
That shot at 2:00 where Ross and Chloe are kissing in the window and Rachel picks up the phone? Took 5 hours and 4 programs to achieve three seconds of video. I shit you not. I'm SURE there's an easier way, but I couldn't think of one.
I really like that shot at "And couldn't see this place could soon become my hell." I just do.
And "I know I'm not deserving of your trust from you right now." GAH. Cry, my babies. CRY THAT ANGST RIGHT OUT FOR US.
I love the timing at 2:53. Like...the crash of the kiss at the swell of the music.
I realize that the sequence that begins at 3:20 is a bit long, but...I just...oh, the faces and the Rachel!hurt, and I COULD NOT CUT AWAY.
I really love that fade to black and white as Ross & Rachel hug. Don't ask me why.
I don't know if you've noticed, but almost every time it says "our hands will not be taught..." either Ross or Rachel does something with their hands. I didn't mean for it to be that way, but it just worked out nicely like that, and I kind of like it.
The fade back to color as they hug again is supposed to signify a switch. Rachel has just fought for Ross and failed; when they hugged the first time, it was showing her face as it faded to black and white. When it shows Ross's face as they hug this time and fades back to color...it signifies that now he's the one fighting for her.
And they kiss on the final note.
And...yeah. Simple, but...I like it. I think it's emotionally moving or some shit like that. So...yeah. The end.

Date: 2007-08-17 09:55 pm (UTC)I would offer to YouTube it, but NBC cracks down on Friends stuff hard, and the last thing I need is to go through another Script Index debacle.
