Detailed Notes

Okay. So...this is the part where I talk about what a genius I am, or something, right? Well, this time, I'm not gonna.

Rather, I'm going to talk about the absolute genius of the source footage I was working with. I felt like I didn't have to do anything, like I just sat down and the vid sort of fell into my lap.

This song, though I will probably always associate it with Simon & River from Firefly thanks to obsessive24's brilliant vid, is the perfect Tommy song. I literally could not ask for a better one if I tried. Part of the reason making this was so easy was due to the amazing fit that the song has to his character.

I tried to explore all of his relationships, from his long-standing feelings for Jenny to the relationship he has with each of his brothers. Unfortunately, most of the Sean footage we have so far is just him lying in a hospital bed, so I felt like maybe I didn't get enough of him in there, and there's probably not enough Jimmy, either. Well, as grownups, anyway. I think I got the Jimmy & Tommy as kids part pretty darn covered. And since it's no secret that my heart lies in the relationship between Tommy and Kevin, I guess you can tell that there's a slightly disproportionate amount of TK as compared to other relationships, but in my defense, the first two episodes are really centered on those two, so I claim it's their fault. Heh.

I really wanted to show just how far Tommy has gone, and all the stuff he's done to try and keep his brothers protected. The line, "I turn myself inside out," really influenced this video. I wanted to show that transformation.

And...and I just have to point this out. I hate to explain stuff. It's like telling a joke. If you explain why your joke is funny, suddenly, even if it was funny to begin with, it's not anymore. But I just have to point this out because it's one of the most important things I was trying to say in the entire video.

At about 2:30, Jimmy and Tommy's faces overlap as Jimmy gets out of the police car. I was trying to say several things with this. They are:

1) I was trying to emphasize the connection; Tommy's devotion to Jimmy because of what happened when they were kids.
2) Remind everyone that while Tommy's going through this hell to save his family, Jimmy's going to get the help he needs. Jimmy, who (and I'm sorry to say this, but it's all his fault!) caused the whole mess, is getting the easier way out, while Tommy is, like I said...he's going through hell.
3) This is the most important one. I was trying to say that in a way...Tommy has become Jimmy. He's become a murderer and a theft and a dozen things that he never wanted to be, not only because of Jimmy, but because he's become Jimmy. I'm not sure if that comes through without me telling you. So...there. I've ruined my joke.

Which brings me to the title of the video, actually. The title of the video signifies all that crap I just said. How Tommy is basically "fading" into Jimmy, in essence becoming him, in his efforts to save him. So...yeah. That's where the title (and the banner graphic) comes from.

And um...I actually think I'm done here. This is one of the very few videos that I've finished, looked at, said, "I wouldn't change a thing, even if I could," and known that it really sort of speaks for itself.

Weird, this feeling of proudness. I'm not used to that. BIZARRE!

Update: Occasionally I get asked for a YouTube link for my videos. I'm loathe to use them because A) they are copyright nazis, and B) the drastic reduction in image quality, but...well, in some cases, it's the only way people can view my videos, and I'd rather they do that on YouTube than not at all.
